Habitat for Humanity

All I Want is a Room Somewhere

This year the AMP Foundation granted $80,000 to Habitat for Humanity. The charity’s mission is simple - to give low income New Zealand families that first step towards financial security by providing them with “a simple, decent place to live”.

Since 1976 Habitat has built more than 200,000 houses in 100 countries, housing more than 1 million people. A new Habitat home is completed every 24 minutes! Habitat houses are purchased by the homeowner families, sold at no-profit, with no interest charged on the loans. Homeowners and volunteers work together to build the houses under trained supervision. The families invest 500 hours of "sweat equity" in their new home.

The AMP Foundation will be working with families in both Auckland and Wellington this year to build two houses. AMP staff look forward to playing their part in the building process, with teams eager to be scheduled for their volulnteer days.
