Genevieve Silvester

Genevieve Silvester - 2008 General Scholarship Recipient
Art Conservator, Dunedin

To become an Art Conservator and help preserve cultural heritage for future generations

”This is an amazing opportunity and I am still pinching myself that it is now, with the help of AMP, a reality.  It is great to know that others share your passion and believe in what you are doing.”

“To me success is leaving the world a better place than when you entered it.”

Genevieve’s dream is that her efforts in art conservation will mean that in hundreds of years time someone like herself will have the opportunity to be inspired by the beautiful art works that have so inspired her.

After obtaining a BA with first class honours in Art History and a BCApSc in Design and Clothing and Textile Science from Otago University, Genevieve started out by volunteering in Galleries in Dunedin.  She believes art is an important part of cultural identity and that its preservation for present and future generations is beyond value.

Genevieve worked for a year in Germany on a trainee/ internship in Paintings Conservation at the Museumslandschafthessenkassel.  During this time she was invited to study at the Courtauld Institute in London as one of just five students accepted into the 2009 course.  Here Genevieve is undertaking an intensive three-year postgraduate diploma with the hope of representing New Zealand on an international stage and forming international networks that will contribute to the conservation of our art history.
