Your privacy is important to us.

BetterMoney (including the BetterMoney website and mobile application), is operated by AMP Services (NZ) Limited, 29 Customs Street West, Auckland.  In this Privacy Policy “AMP”, “us” and “we” refers to AMP Services (NZ) Limited together with the other members of the AMP group of companies.

AMP understands and appreciates that you are concerned about your privacy, including the confidentiality and security of the information we collect about you online. AMP takes pride in being proactive when it comes to safeguarding your privacy and any information you might provide to us in the course of your use of the BetterMoney service.

Our commitment to openness, transparency and your privacy

AMP’s commitment to openness, transparency and protecting your privacy as you use BetterMoney, is aligned with New Zealand privacy law.

This Privacy Policy sets out:

•  the type of information we may ask you to provide, or otherwise collect about you, when you use the BetterMoney service;
• the purposes for which we use your information; and
• the steps you can take to correct or update information we hold about you, or if you feel that we have not lived up to your expectations in respect of privacy.

AMP is also committed to providing you with a better online experience and more personalised services and will endeavour to continue to do so as technology evolves and new features and functionality become available. It will be necessary for our Privacy Policy to change from time to time to account for further developments of the BetterMoney service and we will provide you with reasonable notice of any significant changes.

Please note that this Privacy Policy is specific to AMP’s provision of the BetterMoney service it provides to you, and does not apply to any third party services or sites you may access via the BetterMoney website or mobile application. We encourage you to consult the privacy policy of any third party prior to using their services.

Your identity and the information we collect

AMP believes you should have complete control over your money and your online identity. The information we collect from you, or about your use of the BetterMoney service is dependent on how you access and use the features we offer.

Generally, we will only obtain your personal information directly from you, or from third party sources only with your authority. If we receive personal information about you from a source other than yourself or an authorised source, subject to any legal requirements to the contrary, we will notify you of this fact, the purpose and the circumstances around receiving your personal information.

Information from visitors to the BetterMoney website

If you are a visitor to the BetterMoney website (meaning that you don’t log in to BetterMoney with a user ID and password), we do not collect personal information from or about you from the unsecure areas of the BetterMoney website. Any information we may collect about your use of the BetterMoney website as a visitor remains anonymous.

Information from users of the BetterMoney service

In order to access the secure, password protected features of the BetterMoney service, you will need to register and create an account with BetterMoney, either through the BetterMoney website or the BetterMoney mobile application (an “Account”). When you do, you will be asked to provide your first and last name and email address.  We use this information to set up and give you access to your Account and configure the BetterMoney service for your use.

If you wish to use the BetterMoney service in connection with any of your accounts with third party financial institutions, such as banks, mortgage brokers and superannuation funds, you will also need to provide us with your account credentials for logging in to those accounts, including your usernames and passwords (“Account Credentials”).

You can tell us as much or as little as you like about your situation and your Account Credentials. However, the more you tell us the more we can help you. If you choose not to provide some information you may be unable to use some of the features of the BetterMoney service.

Other personal information we collect from you will depend on what information you choose to disclose to us and how you use the BetterMoney service. Other personal information that we may collect from you may include your mobile phone number which we may use for sending you notifications as part of the BetterMoney service.

We may also ask you for additional information about, for instance, your experience of the BetterMoney service or your purchasing habits, or offer you the opportunity to participate in promotions and giveaways. Any information submitted in relation to these activities will be treated in accordance with this Privacy Policy, except as specifically set forth in the rules for those promotions and giveaways.

Your Account Credentials and Account Information from your third party accounts

By setting up an Account for BetterMoney and providing us with your Account Credentials, you consent to us using your Account Credentials as your authorised agent for the purpose of accessing information about your accounts with third party financial institutions, including account balances and transaction records (your “Account Information”) in order to provide you with the services you access through BetterMoney.

You acknowledge that when we use your Account Credentials we can access your Account Information with third party financial institutions on your behalf and in doing so you may not be in compliance with the terms and conditions in place between you and your financial institution.

Government related identifiers and unsolicited personal information

AMP won’t ask for, use or disclose government related identifiers related to you (e.g. your IRD number) in connection with the BetterMoney services. Should AMP come into possession of any such identifier in connection with the BetterMoney services, we will take steps to de-identify and destroy the information as soon as practicable.

IP addresses, cookies and aggregate data and targeted advertising

AMP collects the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (i.e. the identifier for your computer or device when you are using the internet) of users of the BetterMoney website and mobile application. In the case that AMP has recorded your IP address, such as when you log in to your Account, it is stored for security and audit purposes only. Your IP address will not be used by us or released to any third party except in relation to issues pertaining to security, inappropriate behaviour and/or fraud, which may include issues such as unauthorised access to your computer, our systems, or fraudulent transactions.

The BetterMoney website and mobile application use “cookies” and other web measurement and analytics tools to collect and analyse information about how you interact with the BetterMoney services.  We use this information in order to provide you with the best online experience possible, assist with managing your Account, and to identify you on return visits. Cookies are small data files sent and stored in your web browser on your device’s hard drive. We may access these to understand more about your preferences in order to deliver a more relevant service and to present you with offers and advertisements for AMP products and services we think you might be interested in.  These offers and advertisements may be delivered to you while you are using AMP websites or other websites, including social media sites. If you wish to know when or if you receive cookies from the BetterMoney website or mobile application, you can manually set your browser to notify you of this or, in the case you do not wish to receive cookies, to reject cookies.  You can do this, and learn more about cookies, by visiting https://www.aboutcookies.org/.

Although AMP’s systems and processes relating to BetterMoney do not collect any personal information from or about website visitors who have not registered or created an Account with BetterMoney, they do collect metadata such as the date and time of each unique visit, any pages viewed, and any content downloaded. They also log the number of times website visitors click on content featured on the BetterMoney website. This anonymised information is collected to further develop the BetterMoney service and for AMP’s marketing purposes, including facilitating targeted advertising.

We may use third party service providers to help us analyse certain online activities. For example, these service providers may help us measure the performance of our online campaigns or analyse visitor activity on the BetterMoney website. We may permit these service providers to use cookies and other technologies to perform these services for us. We do not share any personal information about our customers with these third party service providers, and these service providers do not collect such information on our behalf. Our third party service providers are required to comply fully with this Privacy Policy.
