AMP Scholarships - Terms & Conditions

This document sets out the terms and conditions for entry into the following 2017 scholarships: 

  • AMP National Scholarships
  • AMP Regional Scholarships
  • AMP People’s Choice Scholarship
  • AMP Study Start Scholarship
  • AMP People Scholarship

The above scholarships are collectively referred to in these terms and conditions as “AMP Scholarships”.

By submitting an application (“Application”) you (“you” / “Applicant”) agree to be bound by these terms and conditions, as amended from time to time.

How to enter

1. Applications are open from 1 July 2017 until 13 August 2017. Applications received by AMP Services (NZ) Limited (“AMP”) after 11.59pm on 13 August 2017 will not be considered.

2. Applications for AMP Scholarships must be made through the online AMP Scholarships Application Form located at www.amp.co.nz. All Applications which are eligible for AMP Regional Scholarships will be provided by AMP to the relevant AMP Adviser Business (“Adviser Business”) for consideration.

3. You can only submit one Application. Subject to paragraph 4 below, you can apply for ONE of the following AMP Scholarships: 

(a) AMP National Scholarship; or

(b) AMP Study Start Scholarship. 

In addition:

(a) applicants for an AMP National Scholarship who do not receive an AMP National Scholarship are automatically eligible to be considered for an AMP Regional Scholarship; and 

(b) AMP Regional Scholarship recipients will be automatically eligible to be participants for the AMP People’s Choice Scholarship. Applicants for an AMP National Scholarship who do not receive an AMP National Scholarship may be selected by AMP to be participants for the AMP People’s Choice Scholarship at AMP’s discretion.

4. If you are currently employed, engaged or contracted by AMP (or by any related company (as defined in the Companies Act 1993) of AMP) or are a Nominated Representative of a Qualifying Financial Entity in the AMP group, or are a financial adviser employed, engaged or contracted by AdviceFirst Limited or a company contracted to AdviceFirst Limited (all of the above collectively referred to as “AMP Staff”), or if you are an immediate family member of any AMP Staff, then you may only apply for the AMP People Scholarship. For purposes of these terms and conditions, “immediate family member” in respect of an Applicant refers to that Applicant’s spouse /partner, or biological or adoptive parents, children or siblings of that Applicant. 

5. Applications will automatically be declined if not correctly completed and submitted. AMP assumes no responsibility for any failure to receive an Application as a direct or indirect result of a technical problem or any kind of internet malfunction. 

6. You are responsible for keeping a printed copy of your submitted Application. 

7. AMP will notify the finalists for the AMP National Scholarships, AMP Study Start Scholarship and AMP People Scholarship by telephone, email and/or SMS message after initial judging has been completed. 

8. The relevant Adviser Business will notify AMP Regional Scholarship finalists by telephone, email and/or SMS message after initial judging has been completed. 

9. The winner of each AMP Regional Scholarship will be announced at the relevant AMP Regional Scholarship Awards Evening, which will be held between 27–28 September 2017. 

10. AMP will notify the winner of the AMP People’s Choice Scholarship by telephone, email and/or SMS message after People’s Choice voting has closed and votes have been checked, finalised and counted.

11. Winners of all AMP Scholarships (except the AMP Regional Scholarships) will be announced at the AMP Scholarships National Awards Dinner on Thursday 26 October 2017. 

Eligibility

General Eligibility Requirements

12. In order to be eligible for any AMP Scholarship, you must be a New Zealand citizen or Permanent Resident (the term "Permanent Resident" refers to a holder of a New Zealand Resident visa and/or Permanent resident visa) and you must not have been ordinarily residing outside of New Zealand for more than five years as at the date of your Application. 

13. Scholarships will only be awarded to individuals. Teams or groups or other forms of entities are not eligible to apply. However, an Applicant may apply, in his / her individual capacity, in respect of an initiative or venture being undertaken with other person(s), and in such circumstances, AMP has the sole and absolute discretion to award an AMP Scholarship to the individual Applicant without reference to any other person(s), and that decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. 

14. If you are under 18 years of age you must have the consent of your parent(s) or legal guardian(s) to apply. Your parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must have read and discussed with you these terms and conditions before your Application can be submitted. 

15. You are not eligible to apply for any AMP Scholarship if you have previously won an AMP Scholarship of any kind before. 

Additional Eligibility Requirements for AMP Study Start Scholarship 

16. In addition to the General Eligibility Requirements (in paragraphs 12 to 15 above), to apply for the AMP Study Start Scholarship, you must be enrolled in a New Zealand secondary school in year 12 or year 13 at the date of your Application. 

Additional Eligibility Requirements for the AMP People Scholarship 

17. In addition to the General Eligibility Requirements (in paragraphs 12 to 15 above), to apply for the AMP People Scholarship, you must be an AMP Staff member as set out in paragraph 4, or be an immediate family member (as defined in paragraph 4) of an AMP Staff, in either case, the AMP Staff must be an AMP Staff at the time of your Application. 

AMP Scholarships

18. The award of all AMP Scholarship is subject to the Applicant (or, if the Applicant is under 18 years of age, the Applicant’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s) (as the case may be)) entering into a contract with AMP or the relevant Adviser Business, as the case may be. 

AMP National Scholarships

19. There are up to twelve (12) AMP National Scholarships available. AMP may, in its absolute discretion, award more or less than twelve (12) AMP National Scholarships. 

20. Each AMP National Scholarship consists of one payment of up to a maximum amount of $10,000. 

21. Judging will be conducted by a panel of judges selected by AMP in its sole discretion (“AMP Judging Panel”). 

AMP Regional Scholarships 

22. There are eight (8) AMP Regional Scholarships available.

23. Each AMP Regional Scholarship consists of one payment of up to a maximum amount of $5,000.

24. Judging, in respect of each AMP Regional Scholarship, will be conducted by a panel of judges selected by the relevant Adviser Business in its sole discretion (“Adviser Business Judging Panel”).

25. One Regional Scholarship will be awarded to one Applicant in each region as determined by the relevant Adviser Business Judging Panel. The Adviser Business Judging Panel retains the final discretion to decide which region an Applicant may represent. 

AMP Study Start Scholarship

26. There is one (1) AMP Study Start Scholarship available. AMP may, in its absolute discretion, award more than one (1) AMP Study Start Scholarship.

27. The AMP Study Start Scholarship consists of one payment of up to a maximum amount of $10,000.

28. Judging will be conducted by the AMP Judging Panel. 

AMP People Scholarship

29. There is one (1) AMP People Scholarship available.

30. The AMP People Scholarship consists of one payment of up to a maximum amount of $5,000.

31. Judging will be conducted by the AMP Judging Panel. 

AMP People’s Choice Scholarship

32. There is one (1) AMP People’s Choice Scholarship available.

33. The AMP People’s Choice Scholarship consists of one payment of up to a maximum amount of $5,000.

34. Selection will be conducted by way of public vote subject to AMP People Choice Scholarship voting terms and conditions.

AMP People’s Choice Scholarship voting terms and conditions

The below terms and conditions apply to the voting for AMP People’s Choice Scholarship.

35. Voting opens on Monday 2 October 2017 and closes at 11:59pm on Sunday 22 October 2017.

36. Only New Zealand citizens or New Zealand Permanent Residents are eligible to vote. Voting is limited to one vote per person.

37. Votes will only be accepted via text using the short codes allocated to the participants and not by any other means, including, but not limited to, postal mail, email, phone, social media etc.

38. Once a vote has been submitted, it may not be changed or withdrawn.

39. AMP takes no responsibility for any votes which are not submitted correctly before voting closes.

40. The Applicant with the highest number of valid votes (submitted in accordance with these terms and conditions) will, subject to any overriding decision of the AMP (which may be exercised in its sole and absolute discretion), be the recipient of the AMP People’s Choice Scholarship.

41. AMP reserves the right to disqualify a vote or an Applicant if evidence is discovered that any of the votes submitted for that Applicant have been procured, generated, or submitted fraudulently or as a result of improper vote sourcing methods or otherwise in breach of these terms and conditions, or in any manner that AMP in its sole discretion considers to be inappropriate or contrary to the spirit of AMP People’s Choice Scholarship.

42. AMP reserves the right to check the eligibility of votes, the validity of votes and monitor any irregular voting record or pattern in any way it deems appropriate.

43. AMP's decision about the votes and on any aspects of the voting will be final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into.

General

44. These terms and conditions are governed by, and interpreted in accordance with, the laws of New Zealand. 

Declaration and Personal Statement of Applicant

45. By submitting an Application, I hereby declare and agree that:

a) I am eligible to apply for the AMP Scholarship that I have elected to enter in my Application and if requested by AMP I will provide the necessary evidence to prove this eligibility.

b) I am:

(A) 18 years or above at the time of my Application; or

(B) I am under 18 years of age at the time of my Application and I have obtained the consent of my parent(s) or legal guardian(s) (as the case may be) in connection with my Application.

c) AMP Services (NZ) Limited of Level 21, 29 Customs Street West, Auckland will be collecting my personal information contained in or submitted with my Application (“Personal Information”). Staff of AMP and staff of agents engaged by AMP (which may not be a related company (as defined in the Companies Act 1993) of AMP) may have access to and use such Personal Information to assess my Application for an AMP Scholarship, and to contact me in connection with the AMP Scholarship.

d) If I am an AMP National Scholarship applicant who does not receive an AMP National Scholarship, I will be automatically eligible (by default) to be considered for an AMP Regional Scholarship and may at AMP’s discretion be a participant in the AMP People’s Choice Scholarship. If I receive an AMP Regional Scholarship, I will automatically be eligible (by default) to be a participant in the AMP People’s Choice Scholarship.

e) If I am an AMP Regional Scholarship participant, both AMP and the relevant Adviser Business will be collecting my Personal Information. Staff of both AMP and the Adviser Business and staff of agents engaged by AMP and the relevant Adviser Business (which may not be a related company (as defined in the Companies Act 1993) of AMP) may have access to and use such Personal Information to assess my Application and to contact me in connection with the AMP Regional Scholarship.

f) I have obtained the consent of my referee(s) for including their contact details in my Application.

g) Failure to provide, or the supply of incorrect, Personal Information or any other information in my Application may result in my Application being declined (or in any award being revoked).

h) My Application is my own original work and factually accurate to the best of my knowledge.

i) I have the right to access and request correction of any Personal Information by submitting a request to daretodream@amp.co.nz (in relation to any AMP Scholarship).

j) I hereby authorise AMP (AMP in this context includes any related company (as such term is defined in the Companies Act 1993) of AMP and any Adviser Businesses) to:

(A) display or use the Personal Information contained in my Application, and any photographs, recordings or images of me, on the AMP and AMP Scholarships websites, the AMP and AMP Scholarships Facebook page, AMP Twitter profile, AMP LinkedIn profile, an Adviser Business website, Facebook page or Facebook group, Snapchat or Instagram, or any other media or social media platform, and for any promotional and marketing activities, media releases and publications as AMP (or the relevant Adviser Business) deems appropriate, in their absolute discretion. For the avoidance of doubt, AMP and/or the Adviser Business is not obliged to display or use any of the above.

(B) (except where I have opted-out from receiving such messages) use any Personal Information to send commercial electronic messages to me by electronic mail or by phone to offer or promote products or services made available by AMP or its related companies (as defined in the Companies Act 1993) or any Adviser Business.

k) I acknowledge that any photographs, recordings or images of me submitted in my Application become the property of AMP or the relevant Adviser Business. AMP and/or the relevant Adviser Business have a non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable (without consent or notification), irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide right to use any photographs, recordings or images of me submitted in my Application, in part or in their entirety.

l) If I am shortlisted for an AMP Scholarship (except for AMP Regional Scholarships or AMP People’s Choice Scholarship):

(A) I may be required to attend an interview in Auckland with the AMP Judging Panel as part of the assessment of my application. AMP may, in its absolute discretion, offer to pay all or part of my reasonable travel costs associated with my interview.

(B) AMP or its agents may use my Personal Information to conduct reference checks. I confirm that my nominated referees have consented to being contacted for such reference checks.

m) If I am short-listed for an AMP Regional Scholarship:

(A) I may be required to attend an interview with the Adviser Business Judging Panel as part of the assessment of my Application.

(B) The relevant Adviser Business and its agents may use my Personal Information to conduct reference checks. I confirm that my nominated referees have consented to being contacted for such reference checks.

n) If I am awarded an AMP Scholarship:

(A) The amount to be awarded to me, and the terms and conditions in relation to the timing of payment, will be determined by the AMP Judging Panel in its sole discretion (or, in relation to an AMP Regional Scholarship, determined by the Adviser Business Judging Panel).

(B) I (or, if I am under 18 years of age, my parent(s) or legal guardian(s) (as the case may be)) must enter into a contract with AMP to confirm my acceptance, and the terms and conditions, of such AMP Scholarship (except an AMP Regional Scholarship) (“AMP Contract”).

(C) I (or, if I am under 18 years of age, my parent(s) or legal guardian(s) (as the case may be)) must enter into a contract with the relevant Adviser Business to confirm my acceptance, and the terms and conditions, of the AMP Regional Scholarship (“Adviser Contract”).

(D) In accordance with my AMP Contract or my Adviser Contract, any AMP Scholarship funds I receive will be used for the purpose(s) outlined in my Application only. I may be required to show evidence that I have complied with this paragraph.

(E) I will be solely responsible for any and all applicable taxes relating to AMP Scholarships.

o) AMP or the relevant Adviser Business may modify these terms and conditions at any time without notice. AMP and the relevant Adviser Business reserve the right to cancel, suspend or change any AMP Scholarship or any element of any AMP Scholarship for any reason.

p) The AMP Judging Panel has complete discretion in judging applications for any AMP Scholarship. The AMP Judging Panel’s decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

q) The Adviser Business Judging Panel has complete discretion in judging applications for any Regional Scholarship. The Adviser Business Judging Panel’s decisions will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

r) Neither AMP nor related company (as defined in the Companies Act 1993) of AMP will be liable for any direct, indirect or consequential claim, liability, loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered or incurred as a result of or arising from my Application or my participation in the AMP Scholarships, nor will the relevant Adviser Business be liable for any direct, indirect or consequential claim, liability, loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered or incurred as a result of or arising from my Application or my participation in the AMP Regional Scholarship, in each case to the maximum extent permitted by law. 

Privacy

46. AMP and any relevant Adviser Business may keep both electronic and paper copies of all Applications and will store all Personal Information securely.

47. AMP and any relevant Adviser Business websites are securely hosted and all Personal Information is protected against unauthorised access.
