From fencing, to painting, to music and community work, our 2016 scholarship recipients are a diverse group who have all dared to pursue their dreams. Deborah Lambie

Education programmes

Deborah's dream is to reduce educational inequalities in New Zealand. She wants to equip whanau, iwi and community groups in her area with education programmes - learncoach.co.nz

Fencing

Issac's dream is to represent New Zealand in fencing at the 2020 Olympics. He wants to be the youngest fencer New Zealand has ever sent to the Olympics and to grow the sport he is so passionate about.

Kanah Andrews-Nahu

Weightlifting

Kanah's dream is to be an Olympic weight lifter and she's already well on her way. Kanah is representing NZ at the World Young and Youth Commonwealth Championships in Penang, Malaysia and has recently been selected by Olympic Weightlifting New Zealand.

Lisa Argilla

Wildlife hospital

Lisa's dream is to open a specialist wildlife hospital in Dunedin. Currently injured animals are shipped to the North Island for treatment which causes them serious stress and delays important interventions. Lisa wants to change this.

Lorelle McNaughton

Spanish music

Lorelle's passion is Spanish music. She wants to underake specialist post graduate music studies in Spain and be the first New Zealander to record a comprehensive set of the great masterpieces of the Spanish piano repertoire.

Nicola is an ice skating champ and dreams of representing New Zealand in 2017 at the World Junior Ice Skating Grand Prix.

Youth community centre

Nina's dream is to create a youth activities centre in Kaitaia, where youth can engage with the community. She wants to do this to help combat the high suicide rates among young people in the community.

Artist

Paris is an artist and her dream is to produce a grand-scale solo exhibition of paintings inspired by New Zealand's native bush. She wants to create thought provoking work and become a successful role model for young artists.

Paul Thompson

Accommodation for vulnerable young women

Paul provides safe accommodation for vulnerable young women who can't live in their own homes due to various reasons and have nowhere else to go. He will use his scholarship to complete the fit out of the 'safe home' and provide more purpose designed spaces.

A special thank you to Robertson Bathware for their generosity in further helping Paul out with much needed bathroom supplies.

Environment

Jennifer's passion is the environment, and she wants to work towards making dairy farming on the Canterbury Plains environmentally sustainable so that the health of our freshwater systems can be restored back to healthy levels.

Jayden's dream is to become a famous opera star, or to perform musical theatre. He is passionate about singing and has already become very popular in Timaru. Jayden sings for charities and has released a CD for kidney kids.

AMP Dynamics Regional Scholarship recipient
Ciaran's dream is to change beliefs about sexual violence and build support for survivors and to help them to heal. She is doing this by using empathy strategies such as "We support the One in 4 Campaign" developed for sexual abuse survivors within the Kaitaia community.

Emma's dream is to bring Conductive Education to Taranaki so that children with developmental problems can get the help and support they need.

Georgia's dream is to be able to give back to the community and schools that she attended and grew up around. Her short-term dream is to attend Victoria University.

Piera is New Zealand's number one female Alpine ski racer, world ranked 193 from 3800 FIS athletes of 70 nations. No NZ Alpine women has qualified for the Olympics in 16 years and Piera wants to break the cycle and make history. Her dream is to compete at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.

Angus' dream is to play basketball at a high level NCAA Div 1 college as a student athlete, whilst also studying Veterinary Science. He wants to be drafted into the NBA, once qualified as a veterinarian. He also wants to be selected to play for the Tall Blacks.

Jayden's golf handicap is currently 1.8. His dream is to be the youngest World Number One male golfer in the world and to play consistent elite golf.

Tracy's dream is to provide children and families going through cancer with a cartoon style book based on the "The Chemo Crazies" antics.

Phoebe wants to help children and teenagers with their battle with mental illness and help them work past it to achieve their goals, as well as helping the families involved. She wants to change the negative image society has of mental illness and improve peoples understanding.
