Frequently-asked questions

How managed funds work

Managed funds are an investment option to help you save. In a managed fund, your money is pooled with other investors’ money to create greater buying power, giving you access to investment opportunities you may not have as an individual investor.

Unlike a term deposit, a managed fund doesn’t provide a fixed rate of return over a period. This means your return can vary from year to year, and there’s also the risk you could receive less back than what you originally invested.

How much does it cost?

There’s an estimated annual fund fee of 0.79% or 0.80%, depending on the fund selected. The fee is expressed as a percentage of the net asset value and has two parts: a fixed management fee (0.74%), and costs and expenses (estimated at 0.05% or 0.06%, depending on the fund selected).

Example: Sam invests $1,000 in the AMP Growth Managed Fund at the start of the year and remains an investor at the end of the year. If her balance stays the same, estimated annual fund charges for the year will be about $8 (0.80% of $1,000) for the year. These fees might be more or less if her account balance increased or decreased over the year.

How much tax will I pay?

When you invest in AMP Managed Funds, your Prescribed Investor Rate (PIR) is used to calculate the tax you will pay on your investment. The current tax rates are 10.5%, 17.5% and 28%. This rate is determined on your income. Use our guide to determine your PIR.

All investments have some degree of risk. This includes the level of uncertainty and the potential losses associated with an investment decision. To help you clarify your own attitude to risk, you can seek financial advice or work out your risk profile at sorted.org.nz.

How can I make withdrawals from my account?

It's easy to make withdrawals from your AMP Managed Funds account. Select the "Withdraw" button in MyAMP app. You can select any amount you wish to withdraw from the relevant fund. After verifying your ownership of the bank account, we will pay the money to that bank account.

There is no set minimum balance so you can withdraw any amount and as often as you like from your AMP Managed Funds account. There are currently no withdrawal fees.

Can I switch between funds?

Yes, you can change your funds within AMP Managed Funds. To do this you can make a change request through the “change funds” feature in MyAMP Online.

A switch is treated as a withdrawal of units from one fund and an application for new units in another fund. When a change request is submitted, we will withdraw the units you hold from one fund and buy the units from the new fund for your requested amount .
