We're reducing our carbon footprint

We know that many New Zealanders care greatly about our environment and the world we live in. At AMP we believe that as a responsible business, we play a key role in protecting and maintaining our natural environment for future generations to come.

As part of our ongoing focus to reduce, reuse, and recycle, we have made significant progress in lowering our operational carbon emissions alongside our continued commitment to achieving net zero in our investment funds by 2050.

To further these efforts, we will be cutting paper usage within our business. This year, we aim to help minimise the environmental impact of producing and delivering paper by shifting all AMP KiwiSaver and New Zealand Retirement Trust (NZRT) communications from post to digital channels – such as email, and the MyAMP online portal / mobile app. By going digital, we hope to reduce the number of envelopes posted by over 100,000 per year and sheets of paper consumed by more than 500,000 per year.

These initiatives to actively reduce our impact on the environment have been acknowledged by Toitu Envirocare. Toitu provide businesses with a system of internationally recognised carbon and environmental programmes and certification. AMP was named a finalist at the Toitu Brighter Future Awards 2022 for Climate Action in the Top Reducer (closest to zero) category. This award celebrates businesses making the most progress towards carbon zero while being certified by Toitu Envirocare.
