Walk the talk

AMP is the right place to be for certified sustainable investment.

How we walk the talk when it comes to investing sustainably to create a positive impact

‘Greenwashing’ – providing misleading information or a false impression about how environmentally sound investment products are – is a growing issue.

We want our clients to rest assured that our investment funds are living up to our commitment to do good for the planet, for people, and for our communities, while delivering healthy fund performance for our investors.

Which is why we’ve partnered with the Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA) to certify all AMP-named funds across our AMP KiwiSaver Scheme and New Zealand Retirement Trust (NZRT).

RIAA’s Responsible Investment Certification Program is the leading initiative for distinguishing quality responsible, ethical and impact investment products and services in Australia and New Zealand.

Committed to becoming New Zealand’s leading sustainable investment provider

We now have the most independently certified sustainable investment funds in New Zealand: 22 of the 85 recognised by RIAA.

AMP manages $4.8 billion of certified KiwiSaver funds under management, and $2.5 billion in NZRT. Together these total over $7b, which is more than one-third of all RIAA-certified investments in New Zealand.

100% sustainable investing

Only 18% of KiwiSaver investments are independently certified by RIAA.

Research shows that investment funds that adopt sustainable investment criteria have performed as well or better than funds that apply a traditional investment strategy.

Which is why our sustainable investment philosophy is applied to all AMP named funds, not just a specific sustainable investment fund.

An active approach to index investing

Through our sustainable investment approach, we have achieved an overall exposure to carbon emissions across our AMP named funds that is 60% less than it would be if we used traditional market indexes.

Unlike some KiwiSaver providers who adopt an index investment approach, we can easily make changes to our investments in response to client feedback and global developments.

A recent example of this was when we took action to remove the very small amount of investments held in Russian companies due to the tragic events in Ukraine.

New Zealand’s largest certified sustainable retirement savings provider

AMP manages more than 8% of all RIAA certified investments in Australasia.

Important information

AMP-branded funds refers to funds with the prefix ‘AMP’ (except for the AMP Balanced Fund No. 3). These funds will be managed by AMP with support from BlackRock. The AMP Balanced Fund No. 3 will have no immediate change to its underlying investment mix, but it is proposed that, subject to approval by the AMP Investment Committee, the underlying assets of the AMP Balanced Fund No. 3 will transition to be managed by AMP with support from BlackRock Investment Management in the coming weeks. Funds with the prefix ‘AMP Capital’ will continue to be managed by AMP Capital. Refer to the product tables here to see which funds are adopting AMP’s sustainable investment approach.
