Sustainable investing isn’t just about trying to do the right thing for people and the planet. It’s about making smart, forward-looking decisions.
When we talk about sustainable investing, we’re really talking about paying attention to the bigger picture. It involves understanding the risks that could affect the companies we invest in over time - risks that may impact performance and, ultimately, your savings.
Those risks might include climate change, poor leadership, unsafe workplaces, or environmental damage. If companies ignore these issues, it can hurt their profits over time. And that can impact returns.
On the flip side:
✓ A company that plans for a lower-carbon future is less likely to be caught off guard, for example by higher operating costs or changing policy conditions.
✓ Strong leadership and good governance can reduce the risk of costly scandals or fines.
✓ Businesses that treat their people well and keep up with changing customer expectations are often better placed to grow.
In short, companies that manage these challenges well tend to be better positioned to succeed over the long run. That’s what we’re looking for when we invest your money.
We also believe that doing better by the planet and society doesn’t have to come at the expense of returns. Often, the opposite can be true. As expectations shift and customers become more conscious of where they spend their money, businesses that adapt are often the ones that thrive.
The world is changing and investing needs to keep up
Rules, standards and expectations around sustainability are evolving globally. Some countries are streamlining their approach, while others are asking for more detailed reporting. It can sound complicated, but greater transparency helps investors make better decisions.
Keeping up with these changes takes effort. That’s why industry collaboration matters. Working together helps lift standards and promote shared approaches to climate commitments and the management of climate risks.
AMP’s commitment
That’s why we welcome the February 2026 relaunch of the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative and are pleased to reaffirm our commitment, along with more than 250 asset managers.
NZAM provides a platform for companies to make voluntary commitments and publicly share their net-zero targets and implementation strategies. This allows companies to share how they are addressing climate-related financial risks and capturing the opportunities presented by the transition to a lower-carbon economy. This approach encourages practical, evidence-based action to address climate change and work toward the global goal of net zero emissions over time.
For you, this simply means we’ll continue to:
✓ Keep a close eye on climate and other sustainability risks
✓ Take a long-term approach to investing
✓ Focus on building resilient growth for your savings
Sustainable investing isn’t a buzzword for us. It’s part of how we think about protecting and growing your money in a world that’s constantly evolving today and into the future.
