Unclaimed money

If you receive a message from us about unclaimed money and you don’t make contact with us, your funds may be transferred to Inland Revenue (in accordance with the Unclaimed Money Act 1971) or The Treasury (in accordance with the Trusts Act 2019).
 
  • Under the Unclaimed Money Act 1971 we are required to transfer money (excluding KiwiSaver and Superannuation Funds) to the Inland Revenue when you have not been in contact with AMP for 5 years.  We will attempt to contact you using the current information you have provided to us. If we are unable to get hold of you or you don’t respond, your money may be deemed ‘unclaimed money’ and it will be transferred to Inland Revenue. 
  • For KiwiSaver and Superannuation Funds we may transfer unclaimed money to The Treasury in accordance with the Trusts Act 2019.
  • If the unclaimed money is under $100 we may donate it to charity.

Why have you contacted me about this?
We may contact customers to seek instructions or update information we hold. If we are unable to get hold of you or you don’t respond, your money may be deemed ‘unclaimed money’ and it will be transferred to Inland Revenue under the Unclaimed Money Act 1971.  Money can become unclaimed where we have had no contact from you for at least a period of 5 years or where we are unable to continue to invest your money e.g. a fund closure requiring instructions from you.
For KiwiSaver and Superannuation Funds we may transfer unclaimed money to The Treasury in accordance with the Trusts Act 2019.
If the unclaimed money is under $100 we may donate it to charity.

What do I need to do to ensure my money isn’t treated as unclaimed?
The easiest way to do this is to call or email us using the Contact Us information on our website: https://www.amp.co.nz/contact.  Our team will be able to help you and check we’ve got all the information we need on file.  We will need to verify your identity. 

How can I reclaim money that has been sent to Inland Revenue?
By going to the Inland Revenue website at ird.govt.nz/unclaimedmoney. Inland Revenue publishes a list of all the unclaimed money it holds. The list shows the name of the owner/s of the money, the amounts held, and how the money can be claimed.
