If we’ve asked you for a statutory declaration (often called a "stat dec"), it’s because we’re required to collect one for certain KiwiSaver withdrawals.
A statutory declaration is a written statement that you sign in front of an authorised person (such as a Justice of the Peace or a lawyer) to confirm that the information you’ve provided is true.
Under the KiwiSaver Act 2006, we need a statutory declaration for certain types of withdrawals, including:
For retirement withdrawals, we only require a statutory declaration for your initial withdrawal. This helps us confirm your eligibility to receive any Government contributions included in your withdrawal. The good news is that for any subsequent retirement withdrawals, you won’t need to provide another stat dec.
